1. South East Metro Manila Expressway: Introduction

The terrible traffic congestion has become a "specialty" of the city of Manila. The fact that the international community remembers Manila with tarnished images does not make Filipinos proud. To enhance Manila's status, the government has taken concrete actions to address the city's most significant problem - traffic congestion.

The government has gradually enacted short-term traffic improvement measures such as phasing out old jeepneys, banning provincial buses, modifying code maps, blocking roads, widening roads, etc. However, short-term measures can only solve the superficial problem. Congestion continues to increase as time-consuming and reduces productivity. Therefore, Manila citizen is looking forward to long-term awards such as "Build, Build, Build."

The infrastructure improvement program is a positive step in the modernization process, economists and political analysts say. The government has allocated eight trillion pesos of the national budget to the "Golden Age of Infrastructure" to improve infrastructure and modernize public transport. As part of the "Build, Build, Build" program, the South East Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME), commonly known as Circumferential Road 6 or the C6 Expressway, will be launched and soon put into use.

The 34 km long expressway connects FTI (Food Terminal Inc.) in Taguig with the Batasan Complex in Quezon City and ends at the junction with North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). Travel on the C6 route will reduce the journey from Quezon City to Taguig from 1,5 hour to 35 minutes. The San Miguel Group (SMC) and its subsidiaries take responsibility for implementing the project and are expected to be completed by 2020.

Bonifacio Global City/The Fort/McKinley Hill

The Taguig area is connected to the C6 highway by the existing Skyway route at Bicutan. Not only increasing connectivity between cities, but the SEMME project also adds attraction to the Taguig area.

Thanks to the C6 project, many residents will have access to top-class commercial areas such as Bonifacio Global City, The Fort, and McKinley Hill in the prime urban area. Not only that, the ability to connect with international and domestic airports of Taguig has also been enhanced.

Due to its relatively large population and service economy, traffic congestion is the region's biggest problem. The existing main highways are not connected, causing traffic congestion at many points in the city.

By connecting to Skyway and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) via Balagtas in Bulacan, the C6 Expressway provides an efficient solution to Makati's traffic turbulence. Route C6 will gradually replace the existing congested EDSA. However, since citizens can currently only choose buses and FX vans, the government needs to develop more public transport means on the route.

Ortigas Avenue and Ortigas Avenue Extension

C6 will provide an alternative route for people working in the Ortigas Downtown

Instead of choosing the congested and long C5 and EDSA, people moving to the Ortigas Business District from the southern cities of Paranaque, Las Pinas, and Muntinlupa, and also from those from Quezon City and the towns of Rizal, Antipolo, and San Mateo, will benefit when choosing the C6 route significantly.

Taytay, Antipolo, and San Mateo (Rizal)

The government hopes to accelerate urbanization in the developing cities of Taytay, Antipolo, and San Mateo, thanks to the C6 highway

The government will shift the population and industry structure from the urban centers to satellite cities by improving infrastructure and expanding the transport network. As each developing city like Taytay, Antipolo, and San Mateo grows its economic activity, the economy of the whole of Manila will increase.

After completing, South East Metro Manila Expressway project will provide a magic route to Manila's megacities. Accordingly, areas such as Bonifacio Global City / The Fort / McKinley Hill, Downtown Makati, Ortigas Avenue, Ortigas Avenue Extension, or developing cities like Taytay, Antipolo, and San Mateo (Rizal) will have a lot of benefits.
